Academic Support Programs
About
Academic Programs
Academic programs include General Education courses in Critical Analysis; academic courses for non-native speakers of English; and a cooperative education field-experience course in mentoring First-Year Seminar students.
Pre-Admission Program
Directions for Student Potential (DSP) is an intensive alternative admissions program designed to strengthen academic skills. Successful completion of DSP guarantees admission to UMass Boston’s College of Arts and Sciences or College of Science and Mathematics. DSP offers instruction in Verbal Skills, English for Non-native Speakers, and Mathematics.
Tutoring Programs
Academic Support Programs offers a variety of tutoring and tutorial formats to support students in their undergraduate and graduate coursework.
Workshops and Instructional Support
Academic Support Programs faculty and staff collaborate with departments across the University to strengthen undergraduate and graduate experiences. Tutors from both our undergraduate and graduate writing centers facilitate in-class workshops at faculty invitation and with faculty collaboration. Academic Support Programs also offers consulting for faculty seeking assistance in curriculum and pedagogical development in undergraduate and graduate programs across the University. At invitation, Academic Support Programs provides advice to students and faculty who are in the process of creating and maintaining writing support groups.
